Plot: (from imdb.com) In 1984, the USSR's best
submarine captain in their newest sub violates orders and heads for the USA. Is
he trying to defect, or to start a war?
Review: Hunt for Red October is the first of the Jack
Ryan series. It was the first book in the series as well as the first to be
adapted into a movie. Author Tom Clancy is great at the war/spy sub genre (no
pun intended) and the movie translates well from book to screen. The submarine
action is both tense and interesting, especially to someone who know very
little on the subject. Alec Baldwin does a competent job as Jack Ryan and Sean
Connery is interesting as a Russian submarine commander. It’s a definite movie
to see for lover of this genre but others may find the pace a little slow.
