You know you’re in a good place in life when you have too
much of a good thing. In my case, as well as most gamers these days, the
problems is that there are just too many games out there. When I was a kid,
there were not as many games coming out. If you wanted to buy one, it would
cost you close to 100$. If you couldn’t afford to buy it, you could try your
luck at the videostore, maybe it would be available. People today who complain
about video game prices are off their rocker. Sure, a new game coming out these
days will cost you around 70-80$. That’s if you take the regular edition, if
you get some sort of special or collector’s edition, that can easily go over
100$. However, ask yourself what you get for that price. Typically, you’ll have
a story mode that will last you around 10 hours and there will be a slew or
multiplayer options that can last as long as you would like it to. Compare that
to back in the Nintendo days. A game would last you maybe 2 hours, unless it
was one of the rare ones that had save capabilities. And multiplayer, forget
about that. You might have some sort of 2 player co-op or versus mode, but that
would be it.
Another
thing you should ask yourself is, why do you need to get it brand new? Games go
down in price very fast. If you wait 1 year, most of the time the game will go
down to 40$ or even 20$. If you decided to get them used, it will be even
cheaper. In the past, games would never get cheaper. That only changed with
Playstation 1 games. I remember when Super Mario 64 went down to 50$, I thought
it was the deal of the century at the time. Now it’s just the price a game
starts at.
My
point is, people need to stop acting like we are in a dark expensive age of
gaming and realize that this is a great time to be a gamer. Games are cheaper than
they have ever been. So just enjoy what’s in front of you, you never know when
it might go away.
