Movie Reviews #15 - Thinner (1996)

Plot: (from imdb.com) A lawyer is cursed by a gypsy to lose weight...and lose weight...and lose weight...

Review: This movie goes through the expected motions early on but as you get deeper into it, it gets better. It’s surprisingly multi layered. No one is a true here or villain, they are all both good and bad. The main character especially has his moments where you feel sympathy for him and then others where he’s just really evil. But then again, the gypsys are not that saintly or innocent either and they go both ways also. The story goes further then I expected and in the end turned out pretty good. The concept just sounds like an extended episode of tales from the crypt, but it gives just that little extra bit that makes it interesting.

Merry everyone!!!

It's christmas time again, possibly the most overhyped time of the year. It's not terrible and i'm not a grinch that hates it, but I just find that people make too much of a big deal about it. Presents are nice, but it gets shoved down your throat as of November 1st so it can get a little annoying. Other then that, lots of achievements to add this post. Played some Halo MCC and that game pops achievements like candy. They're all for 5 or 10 points, but they are plenty of them. In addition got some Lego Batman and Walking Dead season 1 in.

Movie Reviews #14 - St-Elmo's Fire (1985)

Plot: (from imdb.com) A Group of friends, just out of college, struggle with adulthood. Their main problem is that they're all self-centered and obnoxious.

Review: This movie contains the collection of what was called the Brat pack. A bunch of young 80s actor who would go on to star with each other in so many other 80s movies. For the movie that started it though, it’s not that great. The story seems to be all over the place. The flow just doesn’t feel right. Maybe there’s too many characters and to be honest they’re not all that likable. As the above plot description states, they are self-centered and obnoxious. If you’re looking for a fun 80s movie like the Breakfast Club this is not the place. Serious topics get dealt with such as infidelity and drug abuse. Maybe it just made me feel uncomfortable because of how close to reality it skirts.

Lame ass tiles!!!

Let me get this straight. So Ubisoft spent millions and millions of dollars on making FarCry 4, paying attention to detail in every aspect. But they can't spend some time on making cool achievement pictures? This pisses me off so much about Xbox One achievements that some companies do. There's just no excuse for this shitty behavior. Please big companies, make an effort to make this tiles cool They ended being creative on the 360, hopefully in time the Xbox One will catch up.

Book Review #2 - Digital Fortress by Dan Brown

Dan Brown is a divisive author. Many like his books as is obvious from the huge sales figures. However many others think the books are stupid and not intelligent at all. In my experience the books have been fun and captivating. They are able to keep your attention and the short chapters keep you wanting to continue. Digital Fortress deals with the digital age and the way the government tries to protect itself from the new threats. It is slightly ahead of its time (it was written in 1998) and deals with issues that are still present today. It is best not to reveal too much about the story. Describing it would make it sound duller then it actually is and would not serve it justice. It is a good read and definitely worth your time. Don’t let the book snobs dissuade you; Dan Brown is an author worth trying out. Make your own decision afterwards.
