Movie Reviews #19 - The Equalizer (2014)

Plot: (from imdb.com) A man believes he has put his mysterious past behind him and has dedicated himself to beginning a new, quiet life. But when he meets a young girl under the control of ultra-violent Russian gangsters, he can't stand idly by - he has to help her.

Review: The new action star is not the big brawny tough guy with a funny accent from the 80s and 90s. While I do miss those days, we have new style. Now it’s older guys who have a badass past and are now forced to do the things they were once the best in the world at. Much like Taken did for Liam Neeson, The Equalizer makes Denzel a mega badass. He’s calm and collected and always knows how to handle the situation with brutal efficiency. If this guy is after you, you’re screwed. It is based on the old tv show, but other than the main character having the same name I couldn’t tell you what else it shares. I’d recommend this to anyone who loves action movies.

Score: 8/10
