Movie Reviews #33 - Sinister (2012)

Plot: (from imdb.com) A true-crime writer finds a cache of 8mm home movies films that suggest the murder he is currently researching is the work of a serial killer whose career dates back to the 1960s.

Review: Sinister is pretty decent horror movie. It’s got some good scares, an interesting mystery and creates a sense of dread. The problem is, I feel like I’ve seen this movie many times. It feels like throughout the last decade there have been a lot of movies like this. Some were better, some were much, much worse. But that is not a criticism of this movie. Ethan Hawke does a great job as the lead. He’s a sympathetic character, although he want him to talk to someone about what’s going on rather then keeping it all to himself. Sinister is a quality movie but it’s familiarity knocks it down a peg.

Score: 7/10
